Lesson
1. God expects obedience to His ways (Matthew 5:48, Luke 13:1-9, Galatians 5, John 14:21-24), which is not so different in comparison to the love expectation we have on others.
2. There are different Biblical stages of obedience described among Christian believers, such as Babes in Christ (1 Corinthians 3:-13), Milk and meat Christians (Hebrews 5:11-14), those who stumble very rarely (e.g. 1 Kings 15:5, Galatians 2:11-14), genuinely selfless (Philippians 2:19,20), and imitators of Christ (Philippians 4:9; 1 Corinthians 11:1).
3. There is no Biblical limit to the obedience of a Christian to the ways of God, but grace is available if they stumble in sin (Matthew 5:48, 1 John 2:1)
4. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit does not enable a Christian to become more obedient, but rather is an internal director to obedience (e.g. Abraham (pre-HolySpirit) is a model for faith and godly living – see also Galatians 5, 1 Corinthians 10:13)
